What are multifunctional converters and what are they used for?

Signal converters are used in control systems and are designed to change a pulse or frequency into a corresponding current signal. A safe and efficient production process relies on accurate measurement of speed and flows at certain stages.

Speed measurement

Some devices, such as compressors and turbines, rely on speed measurement accuracy. Control of rotational speed is essential, as excessive speed can exceed equipment specification, increasing the potential for catastrophic equipment failure or personnel safety.

Speed monitoring

Speed monitoring and control are important factors in other applications as well, such as wind turbines, material handling, HVAC pumps, mixers, motors, and more. Speed signals are usually in the form of frequency or pulse output. Most often, these signals are obtained from distance sensors and rotary/linear encoders. This ensures universal compatibility with a control input to a PLC, frequency converter, local indicator or telemetry system, etc. The multi-function transducers can support a section of various pulse and frequency inputs including NAMUR, NPN/PNP, Tacho, S0 according to DIN 43864, and switch contact.

Flow measurement

The flow rate of liquids, gases or vapors is measured and controlled in many different industrial processes. Their applications include wastewater flow, aeration, gas supply too burners, steam control in boilers, natural gas distribution, and many other areas.

Many of these types of flowmeters have a pulse/frequency signal proportional to the flow being measured. A good example is a turbine flow meter that uses a magnetic pickup to measure the speed of the turbine as the blades pass the sensor and outputs a corresponding pulse/frequency signal proportional to the flow.

PR electronics signal converter‘s advantages

PR electronics offer market-leading technology, performance, and flexibility. The extended frequency range, fast response time and high accuracy of PR electronics frequency to current converters make them an ideal choice for speed and flow monitoring applications.
